And he\u2019s seen great success since the launch of his channel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">On TikTok, Tom has amassed over 2.6 million followers. And people don\u2019t just tune in for outdoor survival tips &#8211; his insatiable personality is a big drawing point.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Now, he\u2019s planning his next big move: Quitting his day job.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Feeling stuck in your day job? For example: \u201cI can\u2019t make videos until I have professional equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">This kind of thinking will only create delays and stall momentum.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cYou don\u2019t need to worry about the gear that you have, just work with what you have now,\u201d says Tom.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom started his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/CluelessBushcraft\/featured\"><span class=\"s1\">Youtube channel<\/span><\/a> back in 2017 with whatever tools he could find.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He didn\u2019t painstakingly agonize over every detail &#8211; he let the videos do the talking.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He admits that it\u2019s cringy looking back on those early videos now seeing how far he\u2019s come. But they were an essential learning experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cCommit first and think about the details later.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">That\u2019s one of Tom\u2019s favorite rules from <i>The 10X Rule<\/i> by Grant Cardone. Whether that was trying new recipes, or failing at building a fire in the woods.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">But he was having trouble finding an audience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom\u2019s biggest hurdle: obscurity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">His content was getting lost for all kinds of reasons, either the algorithm or the nicheness of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">So, he set a goal for himself this January: post videos on TikTok three to four times a day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The only way people can see and engage with your content is if you put it out there.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Users on TikTok quickly became fascinated by the uniqueness of Tom\u2019s content. They started to interact and ask all kinds of questions<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">How can I survive using just the elements of nature? Does he really live in that shed he films in?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He developed a style and persona that was totally his own. He wants to see his followers and others make it their own.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cI\u2019m just a normal guy learning all these new things and I\u2019m just sharing it with the world &#8211; you guys can be Clueless Bushcraft.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">And he means it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">People can tell when someone\u2019s being fake about what they put out into the world. They help him prevent mistakes down the road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><i>The No Complaining Rule<\/i> by Jon Gordon emphasizes this. How can you use complaining to solve your problems or look at them from a different point of view?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">There\u2019s actually a benefit in misdirection.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cIf you have a flat tire you just think of it as a learning experience,\u201d says Tom.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Now you know how to change a tire, or what roads to avoid.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">It brings all your problems into focus and turns into something you can use to your benefit.<\/p>\n<h2>What Comes Next?<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom\u2019s grateful to have a day job, it\u2019s just not where his passion lies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">\u201cI prefer to be tired doing the stuff that I love,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">That\u2019s the content side of things. Making videos that engage with his followers and build on that sense of community.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom was actually inspired to set plans in stone to leave his job after listening to their first episode of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mIUtWSnPY6k\"><span class=\"s1\">Quit Your Day Job podcast<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">We talk about how creators can leverage tools like merch to build on their brand, connect with fans, and generate revenue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom was so inspired by our message that he plans to quit his day job in January 2022 and become a full-time content creator!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He\u2019ll have more time to dedicate to his TikTok (those videos don\u2019t make themselves, after all).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">He wants to create more longform content for his Youtube, like this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=KxlzHILyG2o\"><span class=\"s1\">shed build<\/span><\/a> he just uploaded.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">These videos will be informative and go into details TikTok won\u2019t allow. And it will get him closer to his goal of 100,000 subscribers.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">That silver play button is calling his name!<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tom will also have more time to work on his merch.
