blog_placeit

Have you ever tried to retouch a picture in order to integrate your design? If so, you surely know that it takes a long time, and getting a natural-looking result is not easy. Fortunately there’s a solution! As announced in June 2016, Spreadshirt has partnered with with Placeit— one of the internet’s leaders in digital mockups and demo videos.  The partnership has allowed us to give you a15% discount on image models to help you highlight your products. In an interview, Antonio from Placeit shows you what you have to gain. Salut, Antonio! Thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.

If Placeit were a person, what would he or she be like?

Placeit works as your personal marketing assistant. It’s extremely fast and well organized, and it takes on all those little tasks to give you time to focus on bigger aspects of marketing.

We think you’re offering quite a revolutionary product. The days of extravagant photo editing belong to the past. What was the main incentive to trigger Placeit?

Thanks a lot! We started with our ‘digital’ category that allows UX designers or app advertisers to generate their marketing material. You can easily adjust images of people by using the app or website. We saw the need for people generating marketing material and image mock-ups for websites, ads and social media without having to pay for a graphic designer or a photographer.

Before Placeit, the advertiser would have been able to work with Photoshop to create material, and he would have to find the right mock-up or image himself. We wanted to come up with a service that offered all these images while also taking care of the editing for those in need. Now you don’t have to spend time on actually making the image yourself.

What kinds of people take notice of your site? / Which target group is your product aimed at?

There are different audiences for different products. In general, Placeit is aimed at the advertiser or user who wants to showcase a product without the hassle of hiring models and photographers or fussing around with Photoshop.

For our apparel branch, it’s mainly people who sell T-shirts online. People design T-shirts and put them up in their own Shops with platforms like Spreadshirt, then use Placeit as a tool to market their tees and get more sales. This way, they can create marketing material in a matter of clicks. It’s great for people who want to get their Shop marketing started right away.

The range of mock-ups you offer has experienced a marked diversification in recent months. How do you pick the products you take pictures of?

Our research tracking is pretty busy at all times. We look at what T-shirt shops and manufacturers have to offer. We also look at aesthetic trends that keep changing with times. Since we have a team of photographers working on the Placeit range all the time, we generate a large variety of images. We upload new ones every day – some based on research, some on customer requests.

The idea is that we want Placeit to offer the exact image you have in mind.

Looking at your models’ apparel, we noticed a streetwear trend. What determines the concept of your photography?

We look at the trends in the imagery of big brands (as opposed to stock photography trends, where the images are always the same). We also research what our customers use or would like to use, and we gather that feedback. Like you said, many online T-shirt shops take aim at the trendy audience of the so-called millennials (people born in the 80s and 90s), and we wanted to provide the exact type of image they were looking for.

The future of Placeit – where will the journey take you?

We are working on an exciting new feature called Apparel Video. Soon, you will be able to generate realistic videos of people wearing your shirt. We believe this will open a whole world of possibilities for our users. Marketing an online T-shirt shop with videos will take model mock-ups to a whole new level.

Why should our Shop Partners give Placeit a go?

We have done plenty of research that shows that a T-shirt is much more likely to sell when presented in context. A real photo works much better than a picture with a random background. Customers want to see the tee in the flesh, and image advertising on social media is a great tool to improve your conversion rate.

Placeit makes that process simple and fast. We add new images every day so that there always tons of options.

With your online photo editor, people can apply important changes online. Are you going to extend this service even more?

We are working on something new in this area, but we can’t discuss it at the moment. However, there’s definitely something in the pipeline.

Could you briefly explain how this coupon thing works?

It’s very simple. You just have to follow the link provided by Spreadshirt, and Placeit will give you 15% off any purchase or subscription. This applies to your account immediately. If you don’t have one, you can create an account for free and the coupon will be redeemed. Then you can continue to browse, try some images or just wait for a while. The discount will still be there.

Do you ask your customers for feedback? And can your customers request specific kinds of products?

Customer feedback is super important for the development of our services, and we are very active about fulfilling their requests. People can also email us to “hi@placeit.net” to request an image. Just make a suggestion of the type of clothing, model, context, style or aesthetics.

Thank you again for taking the time for this interview. We look forward to seeing what Placeit gets up to in future, and we’d like to wish you the best of success. And thank you for working with us!
